Overview
The Eastbourne Bowling Club has been part of the community since 1907, operating from its current Muritai Road site since 1913. Over its 116-year history, the Club has achieved competitive success and supported generations of Eastbourne residents in their passion for bowls.
However, in recent years, membership and financial constraints have made it challenging for the Club to remain at its current site. Eastbourne Bowling Club is now considering selling and relocating.
An Eastbourne Bowling Club led proposal
To continue offering bowls in Eastbourne for its 137 active members, the Club has developed a proposal to relocate to HW Shortt Recreation Ground. The proposal includes:
- Redeveloping one of the three existing tennis courts into a synthetic bowling green, and
- Replacing the basketball court with a new 3v3 basketball play area (half-court)
This proposal has been developed and led by Eastbourne Bowling Club, and is supported in principle subject to community engagement by the Eastbourne Sports and Services Club.
The Eastbourne Community Board supports the community consultation for the proposal.
Council’s Role
