Consultation has concluded

Hutt City Council is reviewing the support available to protect and conserve local history.

Council’s Heritage Policy goals for built history include:

  1. Recognition and identification;
  2. Retention, protection, enhancement and conservation;
  3. Celebration and promotion; and
  4. Sustainable economic use.

If you are interested, you can read the Heritage Policy here.

Currently, applications can be made to the Heritage Grant Fund (the Fund) to help conserve built heritage. The Fund is a contribution to heritage protection costs. The Fund has a cap of $150,000 per year. You can find information about the Fund here.

As part of the review, Council is seeking feedback from heritage building owners.

If you would like to provide feedback, please fill out the survey below. The feedback will be anonymised and will be considered at a meeting of the Policy, Finance and Strategy Committee on 19 November 2024.

    • The suburb you own the building in;
    • Whether you have applied to the Heritage Grant Fund; and
    • Any information you choose to share in the commentary fields of this survey.

    We collect your personal information in order to:

    • Understand how owners of heritage buildings and structures in Lower Hutt are maintaining/restoring the heritage values of their properties, and how they are using the Heritage Grant Fund; and
    • Improve how the Heritage Grant Fund is managed to best reflect the goals of the Heritage Policy.
    • Email you in the future to consult you on heritage property-related things like this survey or the Heritage Grant Fund.

    Besides our staff, we share this information with:

    • Engagement HQ, our survey host; and
    • Elected Members, who will receive anonymous response results.
