Current consultation has concluded.

Hutt City Council is developing an Indigenous Biodiversity Strategy which will set a framework to guide Council, Mana Whenua and the wider community in working together to protect and restore our indigenous biodiversity. The strategy will set a shared vision and goals to guide us and identifies focus areas where we can work together to make a difference.

This strategy will be supported by a series of implementation programs and plans which will bring this work to life. From revegetation planting projects to pest control and improving water quality, the finalised strategy will help us work to protect and restore our natural taonga for future generations.

Following community and Mana Whenua input, the draft strategy is now available for public consultation until 20 August. Let us know what you think and how we can get the best possible outcomes through this document.

By the end of 2023, the finalised strategy will be approved by Council.

The Draft Indigenous Biodiversity Strategy sets a framework to guide how Hutt City Council, Mana Whenua and broader community can work together to protect and restore our indigenous biodiversity.

The strategy sets a shared vision and goals to guide us and identifies focus areas where we can work together to make a difference. It also connects and aligns us to work being undertaken by others at regional and national levels so we can ensure we are having the greatest collective impact. This strategy will be supported by a series of implementation programs and plans which will bring this work to life.

The process for creating this draft strategy included wānanga, stakeholder group hui, community surveys and conversations with Mana Whenua, groups and individuals interested in biodiversity. Now it's your chance to have your say.
