FAQs
What is a streetscape?
A streetscape is everything you see and experience along a street. A streetscape can be made up of footpaths, trees, seating, lighting, safety elements, and signs. Put together all these things can be what helps make a street feel welcoming, safe, and easy to get around.
Which streets are included in this work?
Right now, we want to know how people feel about all of our streets in the city centre. There are a couple of streets we know we’ll need to upgrade due to work happening for Te Wai Takamori o Te Awa Kairangi - Margaret Street, Andrews Avenue and Dudley Street, and the area by the High St/Queens Dr roundabout.
What kinds of changes might be made?
Changes that could be included in future designs include different walking and cycling infrastructure, more plants, upgraded pavements, improved lighting, street furniture, wayfinding, public art, traffic flow changes or pedestrian crossings.
How is this connected to Te Wai Takamori o Te Awa Kairangi (RiverLink)?
Te Wai Takamori o Te Awa Kairangi is making major improvements to protect Lower Hutt from flooding, improve our transport connections, and turn our city back to face the river. These works affect some of the streets in our city centre.
