Walter Mildenhall Park will be redeveloped with, and for, the Naenae community after the Pool is completed later this year.
The Naenae Community Advisory Group ran a survey in August 2023 getting the views of close to 400 people. They asked residents what they’d like to have and see happening in the park and what kind of style they preferred. There was support for activities like play spaces, BBQ areas, picnic spots, wheeled activities, gardens, leisure activities and art and cultural elements.
In February 2024 Hutt City Council engaged park designers Third Studio and Local Landscape Architecture Collective to collaborate with the community on the design for this space. They've been talking to the community to find out what’s most important to their friends and whānau for our new park space and a summary of what has been heard from different groups can be found in the links on this page.
We've heard loud and clear that preparing and sharing kai with friends and whānau is particularly important. Now we need your help to work out the best place to put it. We've developed a draft plan to show the layout of the different areas of the park and options for the cooking and eating space. We invite you to share your ideas in the survey below on your preference.

The plan below shows 5 possible locations for the cooking and eating space at Walter Mildenhall Park - we think this space could include things like a BBQ, a preparation bench, tables to sit at and a tap for cleaning up.
We want your help to decide where this will go in the final design.
