We're pleased to share that Te Whiringa - Our Engagement Framework was adopted by Council on 16 December 2025.

Thanks to everyone who contributed their feedback in the development of this document, this is all about being able to listen and respond better and we couldn't have done it without you!

From now we will work hard to make the changes laid out in the framework and action plan. We'll keep you updated on our progress through our website and social media, and hopefully you will be able to see and feel the changes as they take root.

This framework is our new approach to how we listen, involve, and partner with our communities. It weaves together your voices, Council expertise, and the principles of partnership to strengthen how we work together.

You can view our ‘At a glance’ summary to quickly understand what it’s about, or you can take the time to read the full draft Te Whiringa Engagement Framework document. We also have a separate copy of the Action Plan (also available in the full Engagement Framework document).

Now we're checking in with you, we want to know if we're on target or if there's something we've missed. The survey will take you through the key parts of the Framework and Action Plan and ask for your feedback on each. It should take approximately 10 minutes to complete.

Survey closes midnight Sunday 3 August

To help set the foundations for our future engagement we've come up with a set of principles. We put these together based on what we heard from you about the way we consult, and international best practices. In our testing, we heard the principles are ambitious, which is what we want them to be.

These principles aren't a detailed list of all the ways we're looking to improve how we engage. That will come in the plan we'll put together. These principles will be a commitment to you. About how we ask for your feedback, how we'll listen, and how you'll know the influence you had on the decisions we make.

Now we're testing them with you, we want to know if we're on target or if there's something we've missed.
